# Notes

Internal notes for team coordination that are never published.

Notes are internal-only comments your team adds on the Notes tab while managing an event. They never appear on status dashboards or in subscriber notifications, so you can capture escalation steps, vendor context, and other coordination details privately.

## What to use notes for
Notes are **internal only** — they are never published to the status dashboard, regardless of the event's publish setting. Use the **Notes** tab to track context your team needs during and after an event.

Supported on all event types, including informational.

> The Notes tab is only visible when
>   **editing**
> an existing event. It does not appear during event creation.

* Internal escalation steps
* Vendor communication
* Post-incident findings while the post-mortem is still in draft
* Team coordination context

For **public** updates that subscribers and status dashboard visitors should see, use [timeline entries](/docs/events/timeline) instead.

## Managing notes
Notes are managed independently of the main event form — each note is saved immediately when you add, edit, or delete it.

| Action     | Behavior                                                                           |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Add** | Write the note text and save. The author and timestamp are recorded automatically. |
| **Edit** | Update the note text. Edited notes are marked as "Edited" in the list. |
| **Delete** | Permanently remove a note. This cannot be undone. |

Notes are sorted newest first in the tab. Each note supports up to **5,000 characters**. Your organization has a per-event note limit (50 by default) — the tab shows how many notes you have used.

Changing notes does **not** trigger subscriber notifications.
